I have finally managed to get some decent photos of my finishing powders yesterday, I’ve tried taking them twice so far but the weather in London just didn’t want to cooperate in the past few weeks! These are my favourite face products, I use them all a lot and rotate depending on the effect I would like to achieve on a particular day. I hope you’ll enjoy the comparison photos and find them useful!
On the bellow swatches, from left to right, you’ll see:
– 01 Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light (£38)
– 02 Guerlain Meteorites Perles Illuminating Powder in # 02 Teint Beige (discontinued)
– 03 Nars Nico (£22.50)
– 04 Hourglass Dim Light (£38)
– 05 MAC Jolly Good Mineralize Skinfinish Duo (limited edition)
– 06 Dolce & Gabbana Glow illuminating powder in Shimmer (£34.50)
Nars Nico is the most neutral of the bunch. It is a true nude shade with a very subtle illuminating finish. It’s almost matte on the skin.
Hourglass Ethereal Light looks overwhelmingly white in the pan, but it doesn’t translate white or chalky on the skin. It’s a bit glittery under direct sunlight (when looked very closely), but under any other light condition the glitter is not visible. The effect on the face is not far from the effect I get with Guerlain #02 Teint Beige Perles, but I actually prefer Ethereal Light because I don’t get sparse, chunky glitter all over my face like I do with Guerlain.
Although they look different when heavily swatched and when looked at in the pan, Hourglass Dim Light and D&G Shimmer have a similar effect on the skin when applied lightly. The difference is, D&G can be built up as a blush, and used for a gentle contouring (full review here). These are great to warm up the complexion.
And finally, MAC Jolly Good – most intense of the bunch, leaves a bit of colour, light hand is a must if used all over the face (you’ll find a full review and how it looks on the skin here).
